Alexander Cheung, cello

Alexander is one of the founding members of Infinitus. He has been principal cellist of the Starling Chamber Orchestra, University Symphony Orchestra at the University of Michigan, and a member of the Starling String Quartet. He was also a member of the Omni String Quartet, who were Young-Artists-in-Residence at the 1999 and 2000 Strings in the Mountains Festival. In 2000, Alexander was a recipient of the Martin Luther King Spirit Award, given “in recognition of individuals whose leadership and service exemplify the spirit of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” Alexander graduated from the University of Michigan with a double major in Cello Performance and Movement Science, and is a certified personal trainer under the American Council on Exercise. Previous teachers include Wayne Smith, Anthony Elliott, and Eric Wilson. Currently, Alexander is on faculty at the Thrive City String Academy and the Young Artists’ Experience Summer Chamber Music Program, and is a substitute for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
