DAVID BRANTER, saxophone

Currently saxophone instructor and director of the jazz orchestra at VCC, David performs as both a classical and jazz saxophonist. In August of 2002 he played lead saxophone with the Festival Vancouver Jazz Orchestra in a concert featuring Phil Woods, Bud Shank and Campbell Ryga, and led the saxophones in the 2003 festival's tribute to Duke Ellington. He performs regularly with jazz groups led by Alan Matheson and is featured on that composer's 2004 CD. Mr. Branter also plays soprano saxophone with the saxophone quartet Saxophilia. Saxophilia performed a full program for Vancouver New Music's Linkage event in April 2002. The quartet recently premiered the work Last Call by Canadian composer Derek Charke. 
Mr. Branter is also saxophonist for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Work as a concert band conductor and band, jazz band and woodwind adjudicator/clinician remain important activities. In recent years, Mr. Branter directed or produced three CDs; Midnight Sleigh Ride , Mazama, and Festivo with the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble
